Best Equipment to Start YouTube 2020
When you are just beginning in any new endeavor, it can sometimes be a challenge to know exactly what you need and how to prepare. Starting a new Youtube channel is no different. What equipment do you absolutely need to be a Youtuber? Most people would think that you need a lot of expensive gear in order to get started, but this is definitely not the case. In fact, you probably already own most of the things you need!
There are few items that are the bare minimum to getting started, and you can upgrade these things depending on your budget. So what is the first and most important piece of equipment you need?
You obviously need something to record videos with, so you will need a camera. Where most people go wrong here is that they think they need a camera worth thousands of dollars to get quality videos, and that is not true.
A simple smartphone takes some AMAZING video and can be used to get started. Phones have come a long way and can take excellent videos, and most of the biggest Youtubers started their channels by using their phones.
If you want to upgrade a little or don’t want to use your phone, there are plenty of great camera options that can be found at any budget. Both Canon and Sony make some great cameras at all different price points and features. A few great options for beginners include the Sony RX100, Canon M50, Canon G7X, and Sony A6400.
The next thing you will need is a computer. You will need a computer that you can use some sort of video editing software so that you can properly cut and edit footage on. Many computers come with some sort of free video editing software, but if yours doesn’t, there are plenty of editing softwares out there that can be found at very cheap prices (or even downloaded for free). Of course, just like the camera, you can always choose to upgrade this depending on your budget and needs!
The last thing you need in order to get started is a place to shoot your videos, and any other equipment depending on your video style. For example, if you are going to vlog, you can just use any space and hold the camera in your hand.
For other types of videos, you might need some kind of tripod or place to put the camera while you shoot unless you have someone holding it for you. You might also need a well lit, quiet area where you can film your videos. Again, it all depends on the types of videos you plan to produce!
A few other pieces of gear to consider are lights and microphones , both of which can significantly help increase the quality of your videos. Whether it is shotgun microphones that attach to the camera or lavalier mics that you attach to yourself, good sound is always important. Lights can be ring or studio lights that are designed for video lighting or even basic lights or lamps purchased from the store. Good lighting is also important!
No matter what your starting budget is or what equipment you are starting with, the most important aspect for a beginner Youtuber is to not worry about the equipment and focus on the content you are creating. Your video quality will increase with practice no matter what gear you have, so get out there and get started!
